Friends here of Mrs. Paul Steeves of Panama, formerly Miss Jean Stopford of this place, received word of the death of her husband who passed away Thursday in a Lincoln hospital following a week’s illness. His death was caused by peritonitis following an attack of appendicitis. The deceased was born and raised in Panama where he conducted a general merchandise business. The funeral services were held at the home in Panama on Sunday afternoon at two o’clock. Besides his wife he is survived by two small children, Robert Dean and Marilyn Janet, his parents, a brother, and other relatives. Among those who attended the funeral services from here were Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Schoettger, George and Clara and Allen Laaker.

Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Schoettger, son George, and their daughter, Miss Clara, and Allen Laaker, attended the funeral Sunday afternoon, October 20th of Paul Steeves of Panama. He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Jean Stopford of Arlington. Two children, one nearly two years of age, and one a small infant, father and mother and one brother, beside a host of friends. Mr. Steeves was a prominent merchant in Panama and had grown to manhood in that place. The funeral services were held in the high school auditorium, there being no church in the town large enough to accommodate all the friends who wished to pay their last respect to a loved friend. Mrs. Steeves and children will make their home with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Joseph Stopford at Gothenburg. Mr. Steeves’ death was due to peritonitis caused from appendicitis. He was in the hospital in Lincoln and had been ill only a week. His age was 26 years.
