The Burkes, who were residents of Kansas City, had spent the weekend visiting relatives in Beemer and in Omaha. They were enroute home at the time of the accident.

His wife, who was an inspector at Continental Can Co. in Kansas City, had attended Cottey College at Nevada, Missouri, Kansas State College at Pittsburg and Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg, which was her home town.
