Arnold M. Burmeister, 89, of Blair, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Arnold M. Burmeister was born Aug. 28, 1918, on the family farm in Fort Calhoun to John and Elizabeth (Gross) Burmeister. He lived there with his family until he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he met his wife-to-be, Bettye Showalter.

After serving his country, the couple returned to the Fort Calhoun area where, for many years, Mr. Burmeister made his occupation as a farmer. In 1971, they moved to Blair, where he was employed by the Blair Community School System.

He enjoyed hobbies which included hunting and fishing with family and friends, and gardening. Family and friends were his greatest joy in in his life. Laughter and joke telling were things he thoroughly enjoyed. His kindness and gentle heart touched many lives and were a blessing to all.

He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Greg Megrue of Lincoln, Nancy Cooper and friend, Kevin Mann, of Blair, Jeanne and Roger Tranmer of Tekamah, and Julie and Chuck Davis of Fremont; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and George Jipp of Blair, and brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Lona Burmeister of Fort Calhoun.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye; an infant son, Randall; four sisters and three brothers.
