Bernetta L. Burns, 89, of Omaha, died Saturday, November 24, 2007, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

A funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at New Cassel Retirement Center, 900 N. 90th Street, in Omaha. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Crosby-Burket-Swanson-Golden Colonial Chapel, 111902 W. Center Road.

Bernetta Lucille Stafford was born Dec. 29, 1917, in West Liberty, Iowa, to Lena and Albert Stafford. She was a 1934 graduate of West Liberty High School.

In 1945, she married Joseph Norman Burns.

Mrs. Burns was a homemaker, and was an active member of the former Holy Angels Catholic Church, and Holy Cross Catholic Church, both in Omaha.

After her husband's death, she was employed as a secretary for the Nebraska Psychiatric Institute.

She was devoted to her family and her church. She was an avid Nebraska football fan. She loved to read, especially reading the newspaper and keeping up on current events. While residing at the Good Samaritan Center, she greatly enjoyed the activities available, and she also served as an advocate for other residents.

She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Kris Burns of Blair, John and Cheryl Burns of Houston, Texas, and James Burns of Los Angeles, Calif.; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
