MRS. JOHN GUTSCHOW

Funeral services were held last Friday, Feb. 21 for Mrs. John Gutschow at the German Lutheran church, with the pastor, Rev. Jul. Frese officiating.

The deceased passed away Feb. 19 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Christensen, at Little Falls, Minn.

Sophie Sodomann was born at Clover Hoff, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany on Oct. 4, 1846. In 1868, at the age of twenty two years, she was united in marriage to John Gutschow who preceded her in death about fifteen years ago.

She is survived by a half brother in Germany and five children who are Mrs. Geo. Hineline, Blair; Mrs. John Hineline, DeSoto; Mrs. Minnie Kohler, Tekamah; Fritz Gutschow of Wellsville, Kansas and Mrs. Charles Christensen of Little Falls, Minn. There are also fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

The Gutschow family came to this country in 1881, living first at Decatur but soon moved down to Washington county where they continued to made their home.

The deceased made her home for many years with her daughter, Anna, now Mrs. Christensen, here in Blair where she was an invalid for a number of years. About a year and a half ago she went up to Minn. to her daughter’s home where she lived until her death at the age of eighty three years, four months and fifteen days.
