GEORGE McCOY

George W. McCoy was born in Breckenridge County, Kentucky Nov. 22, 1860. He was married to Edmonia Lamb Sept. 18. 1884. To this union six children were born: one son, Harley, passed away in infancy, one daughter, Mrs. Vesta Marsh, passed away a few years ago.

Mrs. McCoy passed away Sept. 22, 1928.

Mr. McCoy is survived by one sister of Long Beach, California; one brother, John of Beula Vista, Calif; one son, Bryan of Hurley, New Mexico; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Sutherland, Mrs. Vassie Hansen and Miss Evelyn of Blair; six grandchildren and one great grandson, besides a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. McCoy had been in poor health for a number of years and died October 5, 1929.

His death came as a great shock to his friends. Personally we have known the deceased for the past thirty years or more and regarded him as a personal friend. He was at all times conscientious and scrupulously honest in his dealings.

In his earlier days he farmed up in Rose Hill neighborhood and was successful, moving to town some years ago, that he and his wife might enjoy the fruits of their labor.

The funeral services were held Tuesday at 1:30 from the home in Blair and at 2:00 o’clock at Rose Hill where interment was made in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

GEO. W. McCOY BURIED TUESDAY

Had Been in Poor Health Past Few Years

George W. McCoy shot and killed himself as he sat on the porch of his home on west Washington street late last Saturday afternoon. Mr. McCoy was home alone at the time, and neighbors who heard the shot found his lifeless body a short time after the shooting.

The deceased was born in Breckenridge county, Kentucky, November 22, 1860, and later came to Washington county where he was engaged in farming pursuits. On September 18, 1884 he was united to Edmonia Lamb, and to this union six children were born, a son, Harley, dying in infancy, while a daughter, Mrs. Vesta Marsh died a few years ago. For many years the family lived in the Rose Hill neighborhood where they held a wide acquaintance. Several years ago they moved to Blair where they have since resided. The deceased had been in failing health for a number of years, but had been able to be out and around at times. Mrs. McCoy passed away September 22, 1928.

Surviving him are a son, Bryan of Hurley, New Mexico; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Sutherland, Mrs. Vassie Hansen and Miss Evelyn McCoy, all of this city; a sister at Long Beach, California; a brother, John, of Buena Vista, California; six grandchildren and one great grandson.

A short funeral service was conducted at the family home on Tuesday afternoon followed by a service at the Rose Hill church with Rev. Carl G. Bader, assisted by Rev. L. J. Moran, officiating. Interment was in the Rose Hill cemetery. A quartette composed of Mrs. E. J. Hancock, Miss Ethel Mead, D. C. VanDeusen and F. W. Arndt rendered a number of selections at the service.
