FATAL ACCIDENT AT HIGH, NARROW BRIDGE

Occurs Several Miles East of Blair On Mo. Valley Road

Erige Markart, 27, of Houston, Texas was instantly killed at 3 a.m. Sunday when the car in which he and his wife were traveling to St. Paul collided on a narrow bridge a mile west of Mo. Valley with the car driven by Bernard Gettings of Templeton, Ia., in which were his brothers, Frank and Lawrence, and Ed Long, also of Templeton. Markart’s skull was fractured.

The bridge stands high over a drainage ditch, and the two met on the west end of the bridge just as the Markart car came onto it. The Gettings car turned over two or three times according to Drexel Lewis of Mo. Valley, but none of its occupants were hurt.

The Markarts, who had been spending the summer in Los Angeles, were on their way to St. Paul to visit Mrs. Agnes Krupenny, mother of Mrs. Markart. Mrs. Markart was uninjured except for a cut beside the left eye. The bridge where the accident occurred is on detour No. 27 between Mo. Valley and the Blair bridge. The bridge has recently been raised, is narrow, and is only about 40 feet long.
