John Lothrop died at his home on south Walker Avenue last Sunday following an illness of but short duration. He was born near Grand Rapids, Michigan February 16, 1853, and early in life he showed a strong desire for knowledge, and began a struggle for scholarship. In 1879 he was united in marriage to Miss Hortense Landon, and in 1889 they moved to Yankton, South Dakota, coming to Blair the following year. He was engaged in the practice of law for many years, but later moved to Scottsville, Arkansas, returning to Blair several months ago. Funeral services are being held at the Christian Church this Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, the Rev. A. J. Hargett officiating, after which interment will be in Blair Cemetery. Five children survive him.
