#1 19 Sept., 1929 - The Pilot-Tribune

The funeral of Mrs. Mary Frances Whitlock was held Tuesday afternoon, September 10th, at 3 o’clock at the Henry Reckmeyer home. Services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. A. J. Edgar, and the burial took place in Arlington cemetery beside the grave of her husband who had preceded her in death seventeen years ago.

Mrs. Whitlock was born at Elna, Mo. September 29, 1844 and departed this life Sunday evening, September 8th at the advanced age of almost 85 years. She was a pioneer woman and lived that life patiently and bravely. On October 20, 1863 she was united in marriage to Henry Whitlock, and to this union were born seven children, of whom four are left to mourn the passing of a loving mother. They are: Mrs. Henry Reckmeyer of Arlington; Rev. William E. Whitlock of Butler, Ill; Mrs. Steen G. Marshall of Farmington, Iowa and Mrs. Frank A. Yetter of Fula, Oka. Also 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

In early girlhood Mrs. Whitlock united with the church, and during all her long life was a loyal and devoted member. For a number of years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Reckmeyer, where she received loving care during her long years of failing health, of which the last few she was a shut-in not able to leave her room. She will be greatly missed in the family circle and by the many friends of the Reckmeyers.

ARLINGTON NOTES

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Adrian J. Edgar at the Henry Reckmeyer home on last Tuesday afternoon at three o’clock for Mrs. Henry Whitlock who passed away on Sunday evening, Sept. 8. Mary Frances (Lafrenz) Whitlock was born at Etna, Mo., Sept. 29, 1844. Hers was a life of toil and her girlhood days were spent pioneering in the woods of Mo. An interesting episode which the deceased often recalled took place during the Civil War days while she was still a young girl in her teens, when she helped her brother drive their livestock to safety in Iowa to escape the Marauderings of the bushwhackers. She was married on Oct. 20, 1863 to Henry Whitlock. To this union were born seven children, of whom four are still living: Mrs. Henry Reckmeyer of this place, Rev. W. E. Whitlock, Butler, Ill., Mrs. S. G. Marshall, Farmington, Iowa and Mrs. Frank Yetter of Tulsa, Okla. Fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. Practically all of the deceased’s married life was spent at Farmington, Iowa until Mr. Whitlock passed away seventeen years ago, and since that time she made her home here with her daughter, Mrs. Henry Reckmeyer. Interment was made in the Arlington cemetery.
