FLOATING BODY FOUND IN RIVER

Is Identified as Robert Porter of Sioux City

The body of a man floating down the Missouri river was discovered early last Saturday morning by Nels Jensen, bridge watchman for the Northwestern bridge at Blair, who immediately notified the county authorities. Sheriff Behrens, Deputy Sheriff John Hansen and County Attorney Lundt went to the river and brought the body to shore.

A search of the man’s clothing was made, and a post office box receipt and other papers assisted in identifying him as Robert Porter of Sioux City. Sioux City police were immediately notified, and Saturday afternoon Deputy County Attorney Ray Kenton, City Detectives Ray Dodge and Everett Smith, Deputy Sheriff Frank O’Connor, City Physician M. J. Ryan and Rev. Watson came down and were present at an investigation that was conducted.

The Sioux City men stated that Porter, who was about fifty five years old, had been employed in an ice plant near that city for some time, but that he had not been in good health the past few months, and had given up his work about a month ago. He was last seen in Sioux City the latter part of June, and a hat and a pair of glasses belonging to him were found along the banks of the Missouri at Sioux City a few days ago.

An investigation was conducted Saturday afternoon, and no marks of violence were found on the body. When the body was found, the arms had been securely fastened to the body by wire. The body was taken to Stanton, Neb. Monday morning for burial. Porter was unmarried and leaves a sister, who operates a small newspaper plant at Riverside near Sioux City.
