COUNTY PIONEER DIES AT ARLINGTON

J. C. Blackburn is Victim of Short Illness

J. C. Blackburn, pioneer resident of Arlington, passed away early Saturday morning at his home. While he had not been confined to his bed until Friday, he has been suffering from heart trouble for several months.

Mr. Blackburn was one of the early pioneers of this state, coming to Washington county in 1872 from Pennsylvania and locating at Fontanelle. About four or five years later the family moved to Arlington, then called Belle Creek, where Mr. Blackburn has been in the implement business practically ever since. He was always prominent in all church and community affairs. He enjoyed perfect health and never missed a day at his office until recently.

The deceased was born on January 6, 1842, and last January 10th he and Mrs. Blackburn celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary.

Those surviving, besides the wife, are Mrs. A. W. Ayers of Cameron, Miss., Mrs. R. A. Davis of Arlington, R. M. Blackburn of Chicago and Jay Blackburn of Arlington. Funeral services were held from the Arlington Congregational church on Monday afternoon, the Rev. J. E. Aeschbacher, assisted by Rev. A. J. Edgar officiating, after which interment was made in Arlington Cemetery.
