MRS. MARGARET LAMP

Margaratha Dorothy Suverkrubbe was born October 18, 1849 at Fohren, Holstein, Germany. There she grew to maturity and was confirmed in the Lutheran church.

In 1870 she came to America, living first at Ft. Calhoun, Nebr. She was married October 18, 1873, to Hans A. Lamp, at Omaha. They settled on their farm in Richland Township where they lived for 24 years, when they rented the farm and took a trip to Europe. On the return, they made their home in Blair for two years and then built a new home on their farm and occupied it until 1905. They then moved to 500 West Nebraska street in Blair where Mrs. Lamp has lived until her death. Mr. Lamp departed this life February 12, 1919.

No children were born to them, but Mr. and Mrs. Lamp adopted one son, Charles, whom they reared as their own. He, with his family, lived on the farm until his departure in 1922.

Mrs. Lamp was a woman of high character and ability, exerting a marked influence in her community. Her country home was a center of hospitality, the scene of much pleasant social activity. She was a member of the Washington County Pioneers’ Association and regularly participated in its meetings. She was an indefatigable worker even after her health began to fail. Her death occurred Sunday morning, June 15, after a year’s illness, at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 17 days.

She is survived by one brother, Peter Henry Suverkrubbe, of Irvington; nine nephews, two nieces and eight foster grandchildren besides other relatives and a large circle of friends who affectionately cherish her memory.

Funeral service was held at the family residence in Blair Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. Carl Bader officiating and interment was made in the German cemetery south of Blair.
