Died on 5/28/1931
Buried in Blair Cemetery

4 June, 1931 - The Enterprise

James William Gilliam was born in Indiana May 22, 1858. The first nine years of his life were spent on a farm in his native state. In 1867 he came, with his parents, to Nebraska. The family settled on a farm in Washington County, and here the deceased grew to manhood.

In 1880 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Jane Hampton of Odessa, Missouri. To this union four children were born: William Irwin, Minnie Pearl, Effie Grace and a son who died in infancy.

For thirty three years he continued farming in Washington county. In the year 1913 he moved to Tekamah where he and his brother, John operated a dray line.

Mr. Gilliam had been suffering with a complication of the stomach for more than two years, and during the last few months was gradually growing weaker. Thursday, May 28 there was a sudden turn for the worse, and that afternoon he answered the Master’s call.

There are left to mourn his departure the bereaved wife, three children, Mrs. B. N. Loftis of Herman, Mrs. R. H. Bovee of Fremont, and William Irwin Gilliam of Tekamah; also two brothers, Charles Gilliam of Blair and John Gilliam of Tekamah and eight grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Brother and sister Gilliam confessed their Lord many years ago. They were baptized at Kennard, and became members of the Blair Christian church in Pioneer days. Their membership has always remained in the Blair church.

Sunday afternoon, May 31, a short service was held in the home, after which the body was brought to the Christian church for the fuller service. A. J. Hargett, pastor of the Christian church officiated. Burial was made in the local cemetery.
