Obituary for Adam D. Been

Adam Douglas Been, son of Alan and Pam Been, was born March 1, 1975, in Blair, Ne. He passed away February 18, 2018, in Guthrie, Ok, at the age of 42. He lived in several towns to include Fremont, and Lincoln, Ne where he attended West Lincoln Elementary school. His family attended Fellowship Baptist Church where Adam trusted Christ as his Savior during Sunday School class. Later, his family moved to Grand Island, Ne where he attended and graduated Grand Island Senior High in 1993. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1993-1997 and then United States Army from 2003-2013 during which time he met and was married to Stephanie (Cato) Been on April 9, 2007. After his service, he was working as an electrician to obtain his journeyman’s license. Both Adam and his veteran wife were members of the Guthrie VFW Sooner Post 4578 & Auxiliary.

Adam was always known for being a cut-up. He made a good time from anything. He loved to sing, and the outdoors. He enjoyed taking family vacations. As a kid he was notorious for hiding and hoarding anything sweet to eat. His hiding abilities gave him the skills to find things as well; always finding, opening, and playing with his Christmas presents a month before they were wrapped. He wanted anything, or would do anything that could be dangerous. He would crawl through a 100’ storm drain just to rescue our kitten, or play with the bow and arrows, fireworks, and BB guns exactly how his parents told him not to. He was always there to lend a hand when tragedy struck. He was there when a tornado destroyed his parents’ home in 2007 to aid in the cleanup, and his sister’s home after a 3 alarm fire. Above all, he was, and took pride in being a United States Army Soldier.

Adam is survived by his wife Stephanie Been of Guthrie, Ok. Parents, Alan and Pamela Been of Emerson, Ia. Siblings, Amy (Tony) Fanta of St. Paul, Ne., and Chad (Michelle) Been of Gretna, Ne. Children, Makenna, Harlie, and Lyndsay. Step Children, Leslie, K.P., Travis, and Alexis. Grandchildren, Emersyn, Makayla, Aiden, Maddie, Claire, and Rhea. Numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bud and Amy Dorn of Tekamah, Ne., and Kenneth and Loretta Been of Wichita, Ks. Uncles, Terry Been of Wichita, Ks. and Tom Dorn of Lincoln, Ne., and a cousin, Lucas Dorn, son of Tom and Cecilia Dorn.
