Howard Michael Engstrom 20 Dec 1949 – 03 May 2018

Howard Michael Engstrom was born on December 20, 1949 to parents Carl Dean Engstrom and Delores Lena (Petersen) Engstrom. He had one sibling, his sister Vicky. He grew up in Urbandale, Iowa.

He worked as a general contractor while building three houses. He was a real estate agent, a deputy assessor, a loan officer, and an appraiser. He started his own business as a residential property appraiser. Howard was also a loving caregiver to his two children: Michael and Laura, his parents, his sister and in-laws.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era from 1971-1973.

Howard enjoyed photography, fishing, bird-watching, organic gardening, traveling, reading, Christianity and the Bible. He had a real love and appreciation for all of God's creation and the great outdoors. He would often offer up a simple heartfelt prayer of, “Thank You, God!” whenever he would see a lovely sunset, twinkling stars, or an especially beautiful animal or flower.

He was an outspoken man of faith and prayer. He truly loved and believed with all his heart in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Howard passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Good Shepard Lutheran Care Center in Blair, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his children: Michael (Heidi) Engstrom of New York City, NY, and Laura (Dermott Ferry) Engstrom of Council Bluffs, IA; three grandchildren: Zachary Engstrom, and Isla & Ada Ferry; and his sister Vicky Thomas.

He will be remembered as a true gentleman and for his kindness, love, encouragement, humility, and a delightful sense of humor. He will be genuinely missed by the many people who loved him.

Howard M. Engstrom, age 68, of Omaha died 5/3/18 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair, NE. Preceded in death by parents Carl and Delores (Petersen) Engstrom. Survived by wife Kathy Engstrom of Omaha, daugther Laura Engstrom and her husband Dermot Ferry of Council Bluffs, IA, son Michael and his wife Heidi Engstrom of New York City, grandchildren Isla and Ada Ferry and Zachary Engstrom, sister Vicky Thomas.

Memorial service 11 AM Friday, May 11 at Community of Grace Church, Elkhorn. Private interment. Memorials to Community of Grace Church.
