COUNTY FARMER FOUND DEAD

Body Found in Grove by Roadside Had Been Missed for Several Hours When Searchers Found Him

SHOT THROUGH THE HEAD

Fred Cornelius, a farmer living south of Blair, was found dead in a grove by the roadside about two miles north of the German Hall in the southern part of the county on Wednesday, May 20th.

v He had left home at about six o’clock in the morning on the plea the he was going after a corn planter, and when nothing had been heard from him for several hours, his family became alarmed and a search was made. His car was found where he had driven into the grove, and his body, with a bullet hole in the head, was found on the ground. In his pocket a bottle of strychnine was found, and he had evidently taken a dose of it.

County Attorney Mencke and Sheriff Sutherland were summoned and advised that an undertaker be called at once, and the body was brought to Blair. The reports are that the deceased had been despondent for several days, and was apparently not his normal self.

He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his death.
