Mrs. Martha Melvina Carver, after a long illness of six or seven years, has entered her final home. She departed this life May 6, 1931 at the age of 74 years and 1 month. She was the daughter of Hiram and Nancy Redding, and was born in Rush County, Ind. April 16, 1857. When she was six years old her parents moved to Madison County, Ind. There she grew to womanhood.

In the year 1874 she was united in marriage to Albert Carver. To this union five children were born. All these have gone before her, three in infancy, Nettie E. in the year 1884 and J. Edgar in the year 1922.

Mrs. Carver moved with her family to Nebraska in 1881, and two years later came to Blair where she spent the remainder of her life.

Mrs. Carver gave herself to her Lord when she was a girl of 15. The church record shows that she and her husband placed their letters in the Christian church in Blair in September, 1883, the fall in which the church was organized, and the year in which they came to Blair. Sister Carver was a diligent and faithful church worker. she was a helping member in the Woman’s Christian Board of Missions, a leader in the Ladies’ Aid Society and her influence was felt in the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union.

There are left to mourn her departure the bereaved husband, two grandchildren, Albert, Jr. and Edgar Carver of Colorado and many friends.

The funeral services were held at the Christian church Friday afternoon, May 8, and the body was laid to rest in the Blair cemetery, A. J. Hargett officiating.
