Buried in Blair Cemetery

29 Jan., 1931 - The Enterprise

Sarah E. Smith was born in West Lebanon, Pa., Jan. 12, 1848. In 1855 she came west and landed in Ill., and in 1914 went still further west until she came to Grant, Neb. From there she came to the Home in March 1918, and as she has termed it, to a Haven of rest. Her parents were loyal members in the Presbyterian church. Regardless of this fact, after Miss Smith became acquainted with the polity of the Methodist Episcopal church, she united with the same in 1875. She served her Lord in our church in different capacities. It was her joy to be active in an official relation, also to hold an office in the Missionary Societies. Much of her talent and time were spent as a Sunday school teacher, and for several years taught a Sunday school class in the Home, including such that were not able to go to church. “Aunt Sallie” as she was known in the Home and by her friends, was of an unassuming and an agreeable disposition. Few were her demands, and often whence could not be waited on would do what she possibly could for herself. For the last few years she was patiently waiting for the call of the Master, which came Jan. 20, 1931 to relieve her from all cares and worries of life. for these summons she was ready, for often she said I am just waiting, waiting for a better home, although I am perfectly satisfied. Crowell Home is a good place to be.

She leaves to mourn her death two brothers, Chas. E. of Memphis, Tenn. and James of Pittsburgh,Penn., a number of nephews and nieces with a host of friends that are waiting for the general Resurrection.

The funeral services were held at the Crowell Home Jan. 22nd at two o’clock. Rev. Pardun of the M. E church in Blair in charge, spoke on the text she had chosen, Zach. 14th chapter, the last part of the 7th verse “At eventide it shall be light”, and the songs were also chosen by her, “Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus” and “Asleep in Jesus”. The remains were taken to the Blair Cemetery.
