J. H. STRUVE DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS J. H. Struve, veteran contractor and builder of Blair, passed away at his home on west Nebraska street this morning, Oct. 27 at one o’clock, following an illness of nearly six weeks.

Deceased was born in Luhnstedt, Schleswig Holstein, Germany on Nov. 1, 1860 where he grew to manhood. He came to America in 1883, settling in Omaha. Here he met and married Magdalena Schmidt in 1885. In 1886 he moved to Blair, building the house in which he has since lived and reared his family. In the same year his first wife passed away.

Two years later he married Adolphine Traeger Nov. 14, 1888, and to this union five children were born, all of whom, with the wife, survive him. The children are M. Louis of Blair, Herman of Wichita, Kansas, Chris of Blair, Mrs. Ed Pfieffer of Calhoun and Margaret of Wichita, Kansas.

Henry Struve, as we all knew him, was a man of sterling qualities, at all times known for his honest and upright dealings and his work was as good as his bond. He learned the trade of brick mason in the old country, and every piece of work he did was done with care and precision. His work was his pride.

Coming to Blair in those early days he has figured prominently in his line, and has at different times been connected with other builders. At one time he and Herman Shields, now deceased, were in partnership, later he and Hans Winter Larsen and for the past twenty four years he and Gilbert Hines have worked together.

He has built under contract most of the buildings of Blair, a few of which are the library, Dana College dormitory, Garrison building, Citizens bank, Fashion Center, Ford garage, Creamery, North School, I.O.O.F. building, Holmes bakery, Campbell building, Home Theatre and The Enterprise building.

The funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from the home with Gilbert Hines, Carl Christensen, F. W. Arndt, Clifford Krause, Frank Siert and Peter Follen acting as pallbearers, and interment will be made in the Blair cemetery.

The Enterprise extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
