MRS. JENNIE BALLARD CALLED TO REST

Jennie Pilcher, nee Mrs. Jennie Ballard, passed away at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the home of her son, Lucien of Sioux City. The attributing cause of her death is given as heart failure.

Deceased was born in Cuming City township on June, 27, 1865 on the old Edward Pilcher homestead just northwest of Blair. Here she grew to womanhood in those old pioneer days of the late sixties and seventies. It was here also that she was married to Delbert Ballard March 2, 1897.

For a short period of years after their marriage they made their home in Gentry, Missouri, but returned to this county where they have since resided. To them three children were born; Lucien, now thirty three years of age and Edward, now thirty one. One daughter also came to bless this union, but passed away in infancy.

Mrs. Ballard was a woman who at all times practiced the Christian virtues in a truly Christ Like manner. Joining the church in her early womanhood, she consistently followed its teachings.

Besides the husband and two sons already mentioned, she leaves to mourn her death two sisters, Mrs. Mike Wilson of Herman and Mrs. Burdette Hancock of Blair, also two brothers, C. L. of Omaha and Lloyd of Albion, Nebr.

Funeral services were held last Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the Methodist Episcopal church with Rev. W. H. Jackson officiating, and interment was made in the Blair Cemetery.

Another pioneer has answered the last call. Slowly but surely time is thinning the ranks of those hardy souls, and ere long the curtain will drop for all time on their kind.
