NIELS RASMUSSEN

Niels Rasmussen was born near Herman, Neb. Feb. 13, 1882. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of Orum. Mr. Rasmussen may rightly be called one of the sons of the community for his childhood youth and manhood were spent here.

On Febr. 11, 1911 he was united in holy bonds of matrimony to Miss Amanda Petersen of Herman. To this union two sons were born. Not long after his marriage he took possession of the Spiker store of which he was the owner at the time of his death.

He died last Wednesday, Sept. 14th, following an operation of cancer. He is survived by his wife; the two sons, Alvin and Vernon; five brothers, Henry, Alfred, Louis and Robert of Herman and James of Tekamah; five sisters, Mrs. Mathilda Linderman, Blair; Mrs. Julia Tinn, Arlington; Mrs. Marie Knudsen and Martha Rasmussen, Herman, and Mrs. Elsie Knudsen, Tekamah; and his aged mother of Herman, who all mourn the loss of a devoted husband, father, brother and son.

Mr. Niels Rasmussen was a member of the Orum church. He was a respected and upright man, a loyal citizen and a good husband and father.

Funeral services were held at the Orum Danish Lutheran church last Saturday. Rev. Hans C. Jersild officiated, and a male quartet from Dana College furnished the music. Interment was made in the Orum cemetery.

OWNER OF STORE AT SPIKER DIED SEPT.14

Niels Rasmussen, owner of the Spiker store and a resident of Washington county throughout his lifetime, died Wednesday, September 14th, after an operation for cancer. Funeral services were held at the. Orum Danish Lutheran church on Saturday, Rev. Hans C. Jersild officiating. A male quartet from Dana college furnished music and interment was made in the Orum cemetery.

Mr. Rasmussen was born near Herman on February 13, 1882, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Orum. He might be rightly called one of the sons of the community, for his childhood, youth and manhood were spent here.

On Feb. 11, 1911, he was married to Miss Amanda Petersen of Herman. To this union two sons were born. Not long after his marriage he took possession of the Spiker store, of which he was the owner until the time of his death.

Surviving Mr. Rasmussen are his widow, two sons, Alvin and Vernon; five brothers, Henry, Alfred, Louis and Robert of Herman and James of Tekamah; five sisters, Mrs. Mathilda Linderman, Blair, Mrs. Julia Tinn, Arlington, Mrs. Marie Knudsen and Martha Rasmussen, Herman, and Mrs. Elsie Knudsen, Tekamah. His aged mother, who lives at Herman, also survives him.
