Gretchen Retchursch was born in Germany January 27, 1841 and passed away at Fort Calhoun at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 28 days. She was married to Fritz Steffen in 1871. To them nine children were born, three of whom died in infancy. She leaves to mourn her passing four daughters, Mrs. Anna Wriedt, Mrs. Emma Ketchmark, Mrs. Fred Moeller and Mrs. Charles Moeller, all of this place; two sons, William of Paxton, Nebraska and Henry of Ft. Calhoun; seventeen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Prentice officiating. Interment was made in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
