LOSES LIFE FROM BURNS

Betty Jean Lathrop Victim Of Blaze, Dress Catches Fire From Gas Stove. Lives Twenty Four Hours.

SHOCK TO THE COMMUNITY Little Betty Jean Lathrop, six year old daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Ted Lathrop, passed away Wednesday morning at about 10:30 o’clock, the victim of burns received on Tuesday morning.

She had climbed up to reach the matches which were directly over the gas stove which at that time was lighted. Her dress, coming in contact with the flame, immediately caught fire. Frightened, she started to run, and before she could be caught and the flames extinguished, she had suffered severe burns from the waist up. A physician was called at once and she was taken to a hospital where the burns were dressed, and she was apparently getting along nicely. Up to Wednesday morning no alarming symptoms had developed, but she suddenly turned for the worse and passed away at about 10:30 a.m.

Deceased was the oldest of three children, and was loved by all who knew her, and the entire community is grief-stricken over her tragic death, and words of sympathy for the bereaved parents are heard on every side.

The funeral services will be held from the Christian church at two o’clock Friday afternoon, and interment will be made in the Blair Cemetery.
