MRS. LOUISA COOKE

Blair’s oldest citizen, Mrs. Louisa Cooke, age 94 years, passed away last Thursday morning at 3:00 o’clock at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Ed Stevens, following a stroke of paralysis early the preceding Monday.

Mrs. Cooke was born March 25, 1838 at Reelsville, Ohio, and is said to be a direct descendant of Daniel Boone, the famous scout and hunter. When but a child, her father passed away, and her early education and training was directed entirely by her mother. In 1854 she married Thomas H. Cooke, and two years later they moved to Missouri Valley where they entered a homestead.

Nine children blessed this union, all passing away before the mother, as also the husband who died March 6, 1910. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Cooke went to California where she spent a year and in 1912 she moved to Blair that she might be near her grandchildren who had settled here. Since that time she has made Blair her home, and both her grandchildren, Mrs. Ed Stevens and Mr. Hugh Cooke have given her every attention that kind and loving hearts could accord.

Deceased was widely known in Blair where her friends are legion. She was a wide reader, and in spite of her advanced age, her mind was keen and active, and she enjoyed life to its fullest up to the time of her last illness.

She leaves to mourn her nine grandchildren, Mrs. Ed Stevens and H. J. Cooke of this city; Harold Cooke of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Lawrence, Howard, Fred, Ralph and Grace Cooke all of Spokane, Washington.

The funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home on South street, and another at the funeral home in Missouri Valley where the body was taken for interment.
