COUNTY WOMAN PASSES IN CALIFORNIA

The body of a former Washington County woman, Mrs. Hans Schwager of Hemet, Calif. was brought to Ft. Calhoun, her old home, last Sunday, and funeral services were held from the local Presbyterian church on Monday afternoon, May 10, at two thirty o’clock. Burial was made in the Ft. Calhoun cemetery beside the grave of her husband who passed away in 1914. The deceased came to Ft. Calhoun in an early day, the year being 1869. She was married to Hans D. Schwager in 1870, and from that time until 1917, her life was a part of the Ft. Calhoun community. Here she reared her family and established friendships that survived a half century.

Following the death of her husband, she and her daughter, Lena, now Mrs. Edwin Meyers, went west and have resided in California. Besides the daughter already mentioned, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Charles Mcilwaine and two sons, Louis and August, all of California and two sons, Charles and Henry of Omaha, Nebr.>p> The passing of Mrs. Schwager recalls to her old friends, and to friends of the Schwager family, the very happy memories of the early days in the Ft. Calhoun community. Hans Schwager was one of the substantial men of the county and the family, residing close to the village of Ft. Calhoun, were naturally drawn into church circles and social affairs of prominence. She will be sincerely mourned by all who knew her.
