GEORGIA (REISBIG) MITTEIS

August 3, 1923 – October 30, 2018

Georgia Margaret Reisbig was born on August 3, 1923, in Norfolk, NE to John and Emma Reisbig. She was baptized at the First Congregational Church in Norfolk.

She attended Washington Grade School and Junior and Senior High in Norfolk. During her senior year of high school in March 1942, Georgia took a Civil Service typing test, passed and was offered a position as a Senior Typist of the Navy and Marine Corps in Washington, D.C. The position pertained to typing condolence letters to families and service orders which she occasionally delivered to the commanders at the Pentagon across the Potomac River. While in Washington, D.C., she visited with Eleanor Roosevelt and saw Franklin Roosevelt at a short distance.

Georgia returned to Norfolk in 1944 and worked at Hutchinson Clothing Store and Wetzel and Truex Jewelry store. In December 1944, Georgia became a member of Deborah Rebekah Lodge in Norfolk. She served as Noble Grand (president) in 1954 and received her 70 year pin in 2014.

On September 29, 1946, Georgia married Charles Mitteis of Norfolk. He worked for C. & N. W. Express Company, later as a switchman for C & N.W Railroad. The couple moved to Superior, NE in 1965, then in 1969, moved to Fremont, NE. Charles retired in 1972, and died October 5, 1981. The couple had four daughters; Sara, Deborah, Carrie, and Betty.

Georgia was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC in Fremont, serving as Women’s Fellowship president, deaconess, Stephen Ministry and Church Bazaar chairwoman.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Louise Reisbig, Stella Wyant and Katherine Turner; brothers, Lorenz and John Reisbig.

Georgia is survived by her daughters; Sara (James) Welbourn of Omaha, Deborah (Mike) Teti of Crescent, IA, Carrie (Joel) Landholm of Lyons, NE and Betty Mitteis and Todd Van Keuren of Beaver Lake, NE; 5 grandchildren, Kelly Welbourn of Omaha, Ivory Welbourn of Omaha, Rhea Landholm of Lyons, Samuel (Danielle) Landholm of Kennard, NE and Paige Landholm of Omaha; one great grandchild, Barrett Landholm of Kennard, NE.

Funeral Service will be 2 PM Friday, November 2, 2018 at First Congregational Church U.C.C. in Fremont. Visitation with family will be 5-7 PM on Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue on Friday 1 hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont.
