Claudia Lou Nitzel was born on October 5, 1931 in Homer, Nebraska to Ralph and Frances (Sharp) Bergeon. She grew up in Homer where she graduated from Homer High School. Claudia received her two year teaching credential from Nebraska State Teacher’s College in Wayne, Nebraska and later received her Bachelor of Education degree from Fresno State College in Fresno, California.

Claudia married Ken Nitzel on August 10, 1952 at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Claudia taught in Nebraska for four years before moving to California where she taught for 31 years, the last 20 years at Thomas Elementary in Fresno, California. She retired in 1987.

Claudia passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019 at Brookestone Meadows in Elkhorn, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 17 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Frances and her husband Ken. Claudia is survived by her brother John (Peggy) Eriksen of Blair, Nebraska; step-sister Delores Heck of Rapid City, South Dakota; Nieces and nephews, Vicki (Doug) Hohenstein, John (LizAnne) Stene, Jennifer Eriksen, Jessica (Casey) Ackermann, Alexandria (Mike) Fitzke and Nick Eriksen.
