OBITUARY OF MRS. SOFIE LARSEN

Sofie Jacobsen was born Sept. 11, 1856 in Men, Denmark. She grew to womanhood in Denmark. In 1881 Miss Jacobsen emigrated to America and settled in the Spiker community.

In the spring of 1884 she was united in holy bonds of matrimony to Hans Christen Larsen, a widower of Spiker. To the union were born four children. She and her husband were only permitted the short span of twelve years together when death deprived her of her life’s mate.

Mrs. Larsen was a woman who had experienced much sorrow and trial. Death had bereft her of dear ones. The last fifteen years of her life she suffered much with rheumatism, making it difficult for her to walk and get anywhere. Under it all she bore up bravely and quietly. She was a quiet unassuming woman of pleasing and agreeable character.

She passed away Saturday the 26th of December at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. Christ of Craig, Nebr. after a brief illness. She is survived by her four children, Mrs. Geo. Christ, Craig, Neb; Mrs. Martha Six, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. Henry Clausen, Rotsay, Minn; Hans Larsen of Spiker and one stepson, James P. Larsen of Blair, besides thirty eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two brothers and a sister.

Funeral services with Pastor Hans C. Jersild officiating were held in the Orum Danish Lutheran church Tuesday, Dec. 29th. Interment was made in the Orum cemetery.
