William "Bill" Ray Byers , 67 of Kennard died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Services were March 8 at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Burial was in the Kennard Cemetery.

Byers was born Oct. 15, 1929, in Kennard to Frank and Irene (McCrill) Byers. He graduated from Kennard High School in 1947. He also attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for two years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the Air Force. On Dec. 27, 1951, he married Alice Misfeldt at Grace United Methodist Church in Kennard. He spent his entire life, except for the time he spent in the service, on the family farm near Kennard.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Kennard, Blair Masonic Lodge and was a former member of the Kennard Masonic Lodge.

Survivors are his wife, Alice; a daughter, Teresa Byers of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Pat Byers of Nickerson; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Gary Novak of Blair; seven grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Allan Byers of St. Peters, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dwight; and a niece, Elizabeth.

Memorials may be directed to the Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund. Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
