Lantz, Leland Duane 9/22/2018 Funeral leaflet (photos, including Leland riding horse Joe in the Woodbine Rodeo Parade, 2004) Leland was born on May 30, 1938, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Willis and Margaret (Kelley) Lantz, and grew up on a farm near Woodbine in Harrison County. He attended country school through eighth grade, and then graduated from Woodbine High School in 1956. Leland’s family attended the Allen Creek Chapel and he received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 14. It was here that he met Irene in 1959, when she was teaching Bible School there. Leland married Irene Haddock on June 6, 1964, in Sioux City. To this union, four children were born: Deanna, Peggy, Denise, and Loren. The couple lived in Woodbine, Smithland, and Dunlap, before moving to Moorhead in 1967 to farm with Don Lamb. As a farmer, he raised crops, cattle and hogs until they retired and moved to Onawa in 2007. Leland was an active member at both the First Congregational Church in Dunlap and the Onawa Evangelical Free Church, where he served in many ways. He also served the community as a member of the Monona County Farm Bureau Board, the Moorhead Coop Board, the FHA Board, the Monona County Fair Board, and the East Monona School Board. Leland enjoyed riding horses, watching baseball and rodeos, and following his kids and grandkids through their various activities. He also enjoyed playing cards, reading, going to coffee, and hearing and telling a good story. Leland never met a stranger. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Irene Lantz of Onawa, IA; four children and their spouses, Deanna (Mark) Frederick of Cumming, IA, Peggy Lantz of Longview, TX, Denise (Joel) Nerem of Edgerton, MN, and Loren (Stephanie) Lantz of Moorhead, IA; ten grandchildren, Paul, Colin, and Trent Frederick, Emily, Hannah, and Maren Nerem, and Sam, Sarah, Ben, and Lucas Lantz; one brother and his wife, Donald (Mary) Lantz of Woodbine, IA and one brother-in-law, Romayne Bundt of Carroll, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Margaret Lantz; one sister, Wilma Bundt; and one sister-in-law, Judy Lantz.
