PATRICK LAZURE

Stricken ill Thursday of last week while working in a field, Patrick A. Lazure, 55, farmer near DeSoto, died Sunday evening in Good Samaritan hospital, Blair, following an emergency operation for ulcers of the stomach. The operation revealed that he had suffered from ulcers for years, but he had attributed frequent illnesses to other disorders.

Son of Adolph Lazure, prominent pioneer, Patrick Lazure was born on the family’s homestead near DeSoto and had lived there all his live.

Surviving are his wife, his father, three sisters and three brothers. They are Mrs. Jerry Foley, the Misses Margaret and Teresa Lazure, Joseph, Charles and James Lazure.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock from St. Francis Borgia Catholic church with Father George Jonaitis officiating, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

PERITONITIS IS FATAL TO WELL KNOWN BLAIR MAN, AGED 55

Failing even after an operation had been performed in an attempt to save his life, Patrick Lazure, 55, well known farmer south of Blair, succumbed Sunday from the effects of peritonitis at the Good Samaritan hospital here, where he have been confined for about a week.

Mr. Lazure had been in excellent health until this autumn, when he complained of severe pains. Last week it was discovered that he was suffering from a critical case of ulcers of the stomach. He was taken to the hospital and an operation was performed last Wednesday by an Omaha surgeon. Mr. Lazure came through the operation in fair shape, but two days later peritonitis set in, and his life was practically despaired of. He lost his fight for life Sunday noon.

Born in Grant Township, Washington County, July 27, 1878, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Lazure, he had been a lifelong resident of this county, with the exception of five years spent in Ventura, California. He attended the Washington County schools.

On May 27, 1908 he was united in marriage to Miss Nelle G. Strode in Blair. She survives him. In addition to his wife, the following are left to mourn his passing: his father, Adolph Lazure, aged 93; four brothers, Joseph, Ernest, Charles, and James; three sisters, Theresa and Margaret of Omaha, and Mrs. Jerry Foley of Blair. Another sister Mary, and his mother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning at the Jerry Foley home at 8:30 a.m. and at St. Francis Borgia Catholic church at 9 o’clock. The church was filled with friends of the deceased. Pallbearers at the funeral were William Seltz, Willard McKay, James Mullin, Joseph Sully, Lester Stanley and Jerry Foley. Rev. George F. Jonaitis officiated. Interment was in the Blair cemetery.
