MRS. M. RASMUSSEN

Mrs. Martin Rasmussen of this city was stricken on Tuesday of last week while visiting her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Misfeldt at Washington. The stroke completely paralyzed her right side and left her entirely unconscious. She lingered for four days, passing away on last Saturday, Oct. 21.

Mrs. Rasmussen was born in Denmark and came to this county in her early youth. She was married in Blair Nov. 28, 1884, and to this union twelve children were born, eight of whom are still living. They are: Mrs. Ben Hasselstrom, Cedar Bluffs; Mrs. A. C. Andersen, Kennard; Mrs. J. L. Andersen and Mrs. Chas. Misfeldt, Washington; Mrs. Leo Miller and Mrs. Geo. Frank and Rasmus and Elmer Rasmussen all of Blair.

The husband died in 1928, and since that time Mrs. Rasmussen, with her children, has lived on keeping the home together. In January, 1931 she had her first stroke, but gradually returned to health, although crippled from the effects of the stroke. A year ago she fell and broke her hip and was for a number of weeks confined to the hospital, and so at the age of 71 years she was called to her rest.

She came to America in 1882 and for a time made her home with a cousin at Casper, Wyoming and then came to Omaha where she met and married her husband.

They started housekeeping on the groom’s farm south of Kennard and later moved to a farm west of Kennard where they resided until 1918 when they moved to Blair.

The funeral services were conducted from the Danish Lutheran church in Blair Tuesday at 2 p.m. by Rev. Ernest L. Decker of Omaha, who was a nephew of the deceased, and the pallbearers were also six nephews. The ceremony was impressive and was added to greatly by a tenor solo rendered by G. L. Dixon.

Interment was made in the Prairie View cemetery south of Kennard near her old home and which her husband, the late Martin Rasmussen, had helped to start.
