RITES HELD FOR H. LUENINGHOENER

Funeral services for Henry H. Lueninghoener, pioneer resident of Washington and Dodge counties, who died Monday afternoon of last week at his home in Fremont, were held at 1:30 Thursday afternoon of last week at the home in Fremont.

Rev. Richard A. Heim, who officiated, said Mr. Lueninghoener’s life, marked by Christian devotion, was an inspiration to his pastor and his associates. The many beautiful floral tributes in evidence attested to his wide friendship in this region. A male quartette furnished music.

Born May 30, 1860 near Quincy, Ill., Mr. Lueninghoener moved with his parents in early childhood to St. Louis Mo., where the family resided until he was 8 years of age.

Shortly after Nebraska became a state, the family started west. They reached Omaha by Missouri river steamboat in 1868, and came from there to Fremont. The trip to Fontanelle was made on foot, the 8 year old boy walking the entire distance. He grew to manhood on the old homestead located about seven miles northeast of Fontanelle, and experienced all the hardships of those early days.

Following his marriage January 7, 1884 to Helena Eisele, he and his bride made their home in Dodge county near Hooper. Although his educational advantages had been meager, he schooled himself by constant reading and study. He was known as a ready and witty conversationalist. He served as director of the school board in his district many years.

His religious devotion was outstanding. His name appears on the roll of charter members of the Evangelical church of Telbasta. Later he was instrumental in the organization of a church in the Clark Creek school where he served as Sunday school superintendent for a number of years. After moving to Fremont in 1920, he held offices in the local Evangelical church until a short time before his death.
