MRS. HAYES ASSES JULY 5th

The following clipping from last week’s Hamburg, Iowa paper relates to the wife of our townsman, Mr. H. P. Hays of east South street. She had been ill for several months, and had gone to the home of her sister in that city. The clipping follows:

“Ida Wingate Hays, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. W. C. Wingate, was born in Delaware August 2, 1862, and departed this life at the home of her sister, Mrs. Lee Smith, in Hamburg July 5, 1933, aged 70 years, 11 months and 2 days. She came with her parents to Iowa when nine years of age and located near Hamburg.

At the age of eighteen she was married to H. P. Hays, and to this union one child was born, Letha Bell, who passed away at the age of nine. Mrs. Hays lived near Hamburg for a number of years, then moved to Modale, Iowa, and for fourteen years lived at Blair, where she resided until seven weeks ago when she was brought to her sister’s home on account of failing health. Mrs. Hays united with the M.E. church, South, when a young woman, later joining the Christian church with her husband. She had many friends wherever she lived and many tokens of sympathy and well wishes were extended to her during her illness. She often told her sister that she was not afraid to go, and her niece, Mrs. Ruth Cram, that round about her were the everlasting arms.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the M.E. church at 2 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. Jay Kirkendall, and interment was made in the Hamburg cemetery.
