William Henry Miller was born in Allendale, Mo. March 4, 1860, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. E. Smith, at Pawnee City, Nebr. May 14th, 1933 at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 10 days. Mr. Miller resided in this county more than fifty years, coming here in 1880. About half that time was spent in the vicinity of Blair, but for the past 27 years he had farmed in the vicinity of Fort Calhoun. He was married to Mary Jane Thornton in 1885, who preceded him in death on August 29, 1922. He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Claus Schmidt of Fort Calhoun, Mrs. R. D. Shorthill of Portland, Ore. and Mrs. E. E. Smith of Pawnee City and two sons, William of Blair and Bert of Fort Calhoun. Seven grandchildren and one great grandchild also mourn his departure. Mr. Miller was taken ill with kidney and heart trouble about two weeks before his death and only two days before the end his condition so improved that he was taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. E. Smith. Mr. Miller’s passing is mourned by a large circle of friends. He was a good citizen, a true friend and a helpful neighbor. The funeral services were held at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Prentice officiating. Burial was made in the Blair cemetery.

FORT CALHOUN PIONEER IS DEAD

WILLIAM H. MILLER HAD LIVED IN COUNTY SINCE EARLY ‘80’s

Resident of Washington County for more than 50 years, William Henry Miller died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.E. Smith at Pawnee City, Nebraska, May 14th, at the age of 73. He was taken ill with kidney and heart trouble about two weeks before his death, and it was believed he stood an excellent chance for recovery, his condition having improved so greatly that two days before he died, he was taken to the Smith home.

Funeral services were held at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Mr. Prentice officiating. Burial was in the Blair cemetery.

Born at Allendale, Mo., March 4, 1860, Mr. Miller came to this county in 1880, and during his 53 years of residence here he lived about half of the time in the vicinity of Blair and for the past 27 years on a farm near Fort Calhoun.

He was married to Mary Jane Thornton in 1885, and she preceded him in death on August 29, 1922. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Claud Schmidt of Ft. Calhoun, Mrs. R.D. Shorthill of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. E.E. Smith of Pawnee City, and by two sons, William of Blair and Bert of Fort Calhoun. Also surviving are seven grandchildren-and one great-grandchild.
