FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. C. O. TIMPE

Rev. Charles R. Lichte, pastor of the First Congregational church of Fremont, assisted by Rev. Mr. Moehring, pastor of the Fontanelle Lutheran, church, officiated at the funeral of Mrs. Mary Ann Timpe at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Fontanelle church. Mrs. Timpe, a resident of the Fontanelle neighborhood since 1869, died Wednesday afternoon of last week.

The church was filled to capacity at the services. Floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. Music was furnished by the church choir. Serving as pallbearers were the five sons and one neighbor. Burial was made in Fontanelle cemetery.

Mrs. Timpe, her maiden name Anne Pettingill, was an early settler of this county. The family coming here from Maine and settling first at Fontanelle where they resided for a time and then moved to a farm south of Blair, now known as the Merton Winchell farm. Here Mrs. Timpe was reared to womanhood and graduated from the Blair high school in 1878. Her brother, Somers Pettingill, known to early settlers as Dr. Pettingill, practiced medicine for a number of years in Ft. Calhoun, but recently passed away.

WELL KNOWN PIONEER WAS AN EARLY GRADUATE OF BLAIR SCHOOLS

Mrs. Charles O. Timpe, 75, a resident of Washington County since early childhood, died at her farm home near Fontanelle, Wednesday afternoon, March 15 following a brief illness brought on by high blood pressure.

Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church at Fontanelle, Saturday afternoon, with Rev. Charles R. Lichte of the Fremont Congregational church in charge, assisted by Rev. R. Moehring of the Fontanelle Lutheran church. A quartet composed of the Misses Marthella Strenger and Sophia Waterman, and George Niebaum and Dalton Strenger sang a number of hymns and Mrs. Timpe’s five sons, together with Dietrich Lallman, served as pallbearers. Interment was made in the Fontanelle cemetery.

As Mary Ann Petingill, Mrs. Timpe was born in Bath, Maine on June 12, 1857. She received her early training in that state and was brought to Washington County by her parents as a child. Her education was completed in the Blair city schools and she followed in the footsteps of her father by teaching school, her pursuit for 14 years.

She was married to Mr. Timpe in Fremont on December 27, 1886 and to the union six children were born, five sons and one daughter. The daughter preceded her mother in death about six years ago.

Surviving Mrs. Timpe are her husband, the sons, J. Oliver of Washington D.C., Carl E. of Ft. Morgan, Colorado, Somers E. of Highland Park, Illinois, Conrad C. of Madison, Nebr. and Arthur of Fontanelle. Also surviving is a sister Mrs. Harry Kemp of Messex, Colorado. All were present for the funeral rites.

Mrs. Timpe was born on June 12th, 1856, and was married to C. O. Timpe in 1886.
