MRS. MERRITT SMITH

Mrs. Merritt Smith, formerly a resident of Blair, passed away at Wauneta, Nebraska Feb. 10, 1933 at the age of 80 years, 3 months and fifteen days. Deceased was born at Vevay, Switzerland County, Indiana, and at an early age moved with her parents to Shelbyville, Illinois, and in 1869 crossed the country in a prairie schooner to become an early settler of this state.

On August 29, 1876 she was married to Mr. Merritt Smith and together they made their home on a farm near Tekamah where they resided until 1907 when they moved to this city. The home in Blair was broken by the death of the husband on June 4th, 1920, and since that time Mrs. Smith spent her life with her adopted daughter, Miss Pearl Hazel who is a teacher.

She was a consistent and faithful member of the Baptist church for years, but recently transferred her membership to the Methodist church, being a member of that church at Wauneta at her death.

She leaves to mourn her death her daughter, Pearl Hazel of Wauneta, one brother, Byron D. Poland of Albuquerque, New Mexico with several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Bendorf funeral home with Rev. T. J. Reese of the Baptist church officiating, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
