Lucius Franklin Hilsinger was born in Cortland County, New York September 27, 1852, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O. H. Godsey and family of Herman, Nebr. Jan. 6, 1933, aged 80 years, 3 months and 10 days. At the age of eight years his father passed away, and he, with his mother and family, came west and located near River Sioux, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Henrietta Eudora Noyes at Mondamin, Iowa Sept. 15, 1875. In February, 1881 they, with their children, moved on a farm just west of Herman. After living there three years, they moved to Herman where they resided until the time of their death. Mrs. Hilsinger passed away August 26, 1930. To this union four children, three daughters and one son were born. Mrs. T. W. Hungate of Ryder, North Dakota; Mrs. O. H. Godsey and O. L. Hilsinger of Herman, Nebr. and Mrs. C. W. Stokes of Max Bass, North Dakota. After coming to Herman Mr. Hilsinger was engaged in various lines of business, operating the first barber shop in Herman. Later he was engaged in the meat market business, and served in the office as constable of this village for about twenty years. He, with his son, operated a dray line here for 22 years. When he retired from the business about five years, and since that time he had taken no active part in business life. He was the last of a family of seven children. Mr. Hilsinger was of a kind, generous disposition, and great lover of children and always ready to give of his means to the aid of others. He was known by his jovial and sunny nature and capable of making friends and retaining them. For the past year he had been failing in health, but was able to be about until a month ago when he was taken seriously ill. From that time he had been confined to his bed, but at no time did a word of complaint come from him, meeting all with a smile. He leaves to mourn his loss his four children, eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren beside a host of friends. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. T. J. Reese, pastor of the Baptist church at Blair, assisted by Rev. C. C. Norlin, local pastor of the Methodist church. Music was furnished by a quartet: Mrs Geo. Lowe, Mrs. Claude Yowell, C. R. Gray and Fred Robertson, with Mrs. J. H. Johnson at the piano. Honorary pallbearers were H. C. Cooper, John Oberst, Nels Jackson, J. C. Bailey, John Will and John Larson. The active pallbearers were Ed Olson, J. B. Jensen, Fred Rogert, C. R. Gray, Jess West and J. A. Jespersen.
