EDWARD HOLSTEIN

Edward Ferdinand Holstein, one of 9 children born to Chris and Christine Holstein, was born February 14, 1890 at Herman, Nebr. He spent his boyhood in this same community. October 23, 1912 he was united in marriage to Laura Bendorf. To this union were born 11 children.

Ed was actively engaged in farming at Herman, Nebr., Powell, Wyoming, and Galva, Alta and Storm Lake, Iowa.

Mrs. and Mrs. Holstein celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1962, an occasion which brought many happy memories.

Ed became a member of the First Methodist church of Alta on January 12, 1964, transferring from the Methodist church in Storm Lake.

Upon retiring in January of 1964, Mr. and Mrs. Holstein moved into Alta where Ed passed away, October 7, 1965 at the age of 75 years and 6 months.

Preceding him in death were his parents; 2 brothers, Fred and Jewell; 1 daughter, Marjorie; 1 grandson, Vincent; and 1 granddaughter, Dawn Janelle.

Leaving to mourn his passing are: his wife, Laura; three daughters, Gladys, Mrs. Carl Mogensen of Omaha; Ethel, Mrs. Clarence Van De Venter of Denver; Phyllis, Mrs. Delmer Bruns of Alta; seven sons, Chris of Chicago; Raymond of Schaller; Donald of Alta; Walter of Omaha; Gene of Fort Collins; Marvin of Early and Roger of Phoenix. 24 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; three brothers: Vic, Sam and Dewey; three sisters: Mrs. Nora Newark, Mrs. Mac Cameron and Mrs. Vic Skov. He is also survived by host of other relatives and many, many friends.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 10, 1965 at the Methodist church, the Rev. Calvin Teasdale officiating. Mr. Lawrence Turnquis was vocalist and Miss Deanna Larson, organist. Flower committee was Mrs. Junior Bruns and Mrs. Sylvia Bruns.

Attendants were Martin Hinkeldey, Darrel Carlson, Marvin Bumann, Art Frederick, Hobart Pewsey, Junior Bruns.

Interment was in Woodlawn cemetery at Alta.
