Fort Calhoun Youth Dies in One Vehicle Accident

Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday July 19th, for Joseph C. Morgan, 17, a Fort Calhoun youth, who was killed in a one-car accident about 6:20 p.m. on Monday, July 16, on County Road P43, (high road) about two miles south of Fort Calhoun.

Joe apparently died from multiple injuries, including a skull fracture, rib fractures and multiple lacerations. According to Sheriff’s deputies, Joe was driving a Volkswagen, which apparently went onto the dirt at the edge of the road and flipped about three times, coming to rest on its right side in the middle of the road.

According to reports, the Volkswagen was owned by Carlton Bohanon of Fort Calhoun. Bohanon’s son, Randy, and Morgans dad apparently gone to pick up a vehicle. Bohanon was driving it ahead of Morgan. Sheriff’s deputies reported that Randy became worried when Morgan did not appear over the crest of the hill behind him. Bohanon took Morgan to Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, where he died.

Joseph C. Morgan, would have been 18 years old on the day after the accident. He was born July 17, 1961 at Watertown, South Dakota, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Morgan, now of Fort Calhoun.

His parents survive him, as do three brothers; Robert of Blair; Michael of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska; Edward of Fort Calhoun; two sisters; Rose of Denver; and Mary at home. A grandfather, Edward Morgan, of North Sioux City, South Dakota, also survives.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home is in charge of funeral services, with interment in the Blair Cemetery. Reverend John Petersen is to officiate at the services. FindaGrave Memorial # 117336661
