R. E. MORTON PASSES AWAY

Richard Eldred Morton was born at Modale, Iowa November 4, 1878, and died at his home in Herman on Monday, November 9 at the age of 58 years and 5 days.

At the outbreak of the Spanish-American war he enlisted in the service of his country.

On August 30, 1905 he was married to Miss Geneva Baker, the ceremony being performed at Blair. The young couple immediately went farming where they resided until seven years ago when they moved to Herman.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lizzie Clinkenbeard of Sioux City, Iowa; four brothers, Ray of Los Angeles, California; Carl of Chico, California; Lee and Vern of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs Selma Meecham of Bloomfield, Nebr; and Mrs. Jessie Martinson of Sioux City, Iowa, and other more distant relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Legion hall conducted by Rev. T. J. Reese of Blair, assisted by Rev. A. W. Clarke of the local Methodist church. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. C. E. Johnson, Miss Dagmar Olson, Francis Forsberg and J. H. Johnson with Mrs. F. B. Shrader at the piano.

Members of the American Legion were pallbearers.

Interment was made in the Tekamah cemetery.

RICHARD MORION OF HERMAN DIES

FORMER RESIDENT OF BLAIR, AGED 58, SUCCUMBED EARLY MONDAY

Early Monday morning, the community was shocked to learn of the sudden death of Dick Morton. While he had been in poor health for sometime caused by a wounded leg, an injury he received while in service, his death caused by a heart attack, came as a surprise to all.

Richard Eldred Morton was born at Modale, Iowa, November 4, 1878 and he died at his home in Herman, November 9, 1936 at the age of 58 years and five days.

While a young man he came with his parents to Blair. After a short time there, the family moved back to Modale. Later they moved to Herman where he grew to manhood.

He was united in marriage to Miss Geneva Baker, August 30, 1905 at Blair, Nebraska. They made their home on a farm northeast of Herman until seven years ago when they moved to Herman, where they had lived ever since.

Mr. Morton enlisted in Company 3 of the third Regiment of the Spanish American War and served in this capacity well until he was given an honorable discharge because of his health. The deceased having spent practically all of his life in this vicinity was well and favorably known.

He is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. Lizzie Clinkenbeard of Sioux City, Iowa, four brothers, Ray of Los Angeles, Carl of Chico, California, Lee and Verne of Sioux City, two sisters, Mrs. Selma Meacham of Bloomfield, Nebraska, and Mrs. Jessie Martinson of Sioux City, other relatives and many friends.

The pall bearers were members of the American Legion, a firing squad assisted. Interment was made in the Herman cemetery.
