Mary Jane Jackson, 75, died suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at her home in Herman.

Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 27, at the Herman Community Church. Interment was in the Craig Cemetery.

Mary Jane Freeman was born Aug. 24, 1932, in Craig to Kenneth and Dorothy (Moore) Freeman. She moved to Herman shortly after her birth with her parents.

She attended school in Herman and graduated from Herman High School in 1949. She attended Wayne State College for two years where she attained her teaching certificate. She later attended Dana College and received her teaching degree. She taught first grade at Wisner for two years, and then taught for two years in Tekamah.

On July 4, 1953, she married Cameron Jackson. After her marriage, she worked as a substitute teacher and helped on the farm. After acquiring the Herman Jiffy Mart, she helped in the store for many years. She later went to work at the Herman Post Office.

Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Herman Baptist Church, and received a perfect attendance award for 20 years in Sunday School, which she also taught for approximately 50 years.

She was Past Guardian of Jobs Daughters, Bethel 56; Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, Herman Chapter 216; was a permanent member of the Herman American Legion Auxiliary; and held various local, district and state offices. She was active in Herman community affairs and participated in numerous community projects. She never knew the meaning of saying "no" when she was needed to help.

She is survived by her husband, Cameron; daughter, Carma Jackson of Herman; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Shelly Jackson of Omaha; granddaughter, Julia Jackson; sister-in-law, Marian Madsen of Blair; niece, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Herman Community Church, the Herman Rescue Squad, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
