OLD SETTLER BURIED SATURDAY

Mr. Chris Sunds was born in Knudstrup, Denmark November 11, 1861, and passed away at his home in Washington, Nebraska September 23rd at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 13 days.

On November 24, 1893 he was united in marriage to Christina Hwam, and the following year they immigrated to America and settled on a farm in the Washington community where they have resided ever since. Mr. Sunds was an esteemed member of the community, taking an active part in its affairs. He was a charter member of the Woodmen of the World, and held in highest regard by all who knew him. Death came Wednesday of last week after an illness of one week of pneumonia and pleurisy.

Besides his wife he is survived by three sons: James of Arlington; Martin and Albert of Washington; and three daughters: Mrs. Elvera Tietgen and Mrs. Erna Matzen of Blair; and Mrs. Frieda Wiese of Washington. One son preceded him in death.

Besides the immediate family, he leaves fifteen grandchildren, one brother, Peter, and one sister, Marie, still living in Denmark and one niece and four nephews in Omaha and two nephews in Iowa.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Community church in Washington where, in spite of the rain and muddy roads, a large attendance gathered to show their regards for their old neighbor and friend.

The pallbearers were Chris Nelsen, Nels P. Nelsen, Thomas Kniep, John A. Johnson, John Crink and Jens P. Hansen. Rev. James N. Lund of Blair officiated at the ceremonies. Interment was made in the Prairie View cemetery.
