MOTHER OF MRS. J. H. JOHNSON DIES

Mrs. Stella Paine Butler was born July 19, 1853 at Prineville, Ohio, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Johnson, in Herman early Sunday morning, August 23, at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 3 days. She came west to Nebraska in 1874, and on August 19th of that year was married to Dr. Butler, and they made their home at Weeping Water. In October of the same year she joined the Congregational church there and was a devoted Christian throughout her life.

Dr. Butler died in 1915. In 1919 she went to Ashland and made her home with a daughter, Mildred, who was an instructor in the schools there. In 1920 she went to Lincoln and lived with her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Johnson until 1932 when they returned to Herman.

To Dr. and Mrs. Butler were born five daughters, three have preceded her in death: Mattie at the age of two; Mrs. Agnes Wiles and Miss Mildred Butler in 1934. Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Charrie Johnson of Herman and Mrs. Henrietta Stone of Easton, Pennsylvania. One sister, Miss Charrie Paine of Grand Island, Nebr, two brothers, Henry and Hendrick of Pennsylvania, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Short services were held at the Johnson home in Herman on Tuesday at 10 a.m. conducted by Rev. Hill. The body was taken to Weeping Water where services were held at the Congregational church at 2 o’clock that afternoon. Interment was made at the Weeping Water cemetery.
