CALHOUN GIRL, 14, DROWNED IN RIVER MONDAY EVENING

Helping Father With His Fish Lines and Waded in Deep Water Sylvia Rasmussen, 14, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rasmussen of east of Fort Calhoun, was drowned in the Missouri river last Monday evening.

Mr. Rasmussen had some fishing lines set in the river for fishing, and he and four children, two sons and two daughters, had gone down in the evening to run the lines and take off the fish.

Sylvia had waded out along the line, and had gotten out into deep water when she stepped into still deeper water. She swam for a short distance, but disappeared under the water before her father could reach her.

The alarm was at once given, and the Omaha fire department came with their spot lights and other equipment at once and started dragging the river in the vicinity where the accident occurred, but the last reports were that their efforts were futile.
