RICHARD HENRY BLANKENBECKLER

Richard Emory Blankenbeckler was born March 14, 1877 at Chilhowie, Virginia. He departed this life at the home of his brother in Sterling, Colorado August 9, 1936. Age 59 years, six months and nine days.

He was united in marriage with Mary Caroline Martin in Chilhowie, Va. December 25, 1901. To this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters. One of the sons, Harold, departed this life in 1915. When fifteen years of age he came to Nebraska and engaged in agricultural work which was in Burt county in the Tekamah vicinity.

When a boy he was confirmed in the St. James Lutheran church at Chilhowie, Va., and remained a faithful adherent to that branch of the Christian faith throughout his life.

Mr. Blankenbeckler was an industrious, hard working man who could be relied upon in every way, and one whose honesty could not be questioned in any way. He was optimistic at all times, the possessor of a cheerful disposition which was very noticeable to all those with whom he met.

After bidding goodbye to his many friends and acquaintances, he left on Saturday morning for the state of Washington. He stopped en route at the home of his brother in Sterling, Colorado, and on Sunday afternoon he succumbed to a sudden attack of heart failure.

The body was shipped to Tekamah, Nebraska, and the funeral services were held there at the Lutheran church on Wednesday afternoon, August 12th, conducted by Rev. D. A. McCullough, pastor of the Methodist church of Blair, Nebraska. Burial was in Tekamah cemetery.

Those of the immediate family who are left to meet him sometime in the future are his good and faithful wife who had walked continually by his side, two sons and three daughters: Glen, Jack and Virginia of Tekamah; W. L. Buss of Omaha, Nebr. and Mrs. Wesley Drummond of Long Beach, Calif.; five sisters: Mrs. Mesdames Will and Dan Thompson, Blair, Nebr; Everett DeVinney, Valier, Montana; Will Taylor, Fort Collins, Colorado; and Ed Dunning, Decatur, Nebraska; six brothers: Herbert, Elmo and Jim of Tekamah, Nebr.; Lilburn of Sterling, Colo.; Jack of Lyons, Nebr.; Archie of Knoxville, Iowa.

There are many other relatives and a great host of friends who will miss the presence of this helpful and useful man.
