PIONEER ANSWERS THE LAST CALL

John F. Gilliam was born in Indiana August 15th, 1863 and passed away at Tekamah, Nebr. June 26th, 1936. He would have been 73 years of age in August.

In 1867 he came with his parents to Nebraska, and they settled near Blair. He was one of a family of six children, and with the exception of the brother, Charles at Blair, they have all passed on before.

Twenty three years ago he went to Burt county, and has lived at Tekamah. He and his brother, James, ran a dray line, but since his brother’s death five years ago, he has discontinued the business. He lived with his brother, James, for over fifty years, making his home there until his death.

He leaves to mourn his death his brother, Charles of Blair, and sixteen nephews and nieces and a large circle of friends. He was formerly a member of the Christian church at Blair.

The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, and was conducted at the home of Mrs. James Gilliam where he had lived so many years, Rev. T. Porter Bennett, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Tekamah, preaching the funeral sermon from the text Psalm 46:1. Mrs. W. T. Poucher and Mrs. Charles Gates had charge of the singing. Interment was in the Blair cemetery.
