CALHOUN YOUTH, AGE 12, DROWNS IN RIVER MON.

Swimming With Younger Brother, Body Not Yet Located

SEARCHERS BUSY

Recovery of the body of Arthur Wakefield, 12 year old Fort Calhoun lad, who was drowned in the Missouri river Monday, had not been accomplished late Wednesday according to available reports.

The lad, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Wakefield, who live near the river east of Fort Calhoun, was swimming in the Missouri river Monday afternoon when the accident occurred. On the bank sat his younger brother, aged 8, who watched the boy drift from sight in the muddy, swollen waters of the river which is in its annual June flood stage.

The day was quite warm, and the two youngsters were playing near the river when Arthur decided upon a swim. The younger boy sat upon the bank watching his brother when he suddenly sank out of sight. Whether the lad stepped into a hole or cramped will probably never be known.

A drop of nearly twelve inches in the river during Tuesday night brought new hope of speedy recovery of the body.
