EARLY CALHOUN SETTLER PASSES

Mrs. Tom Kelly Dies at Age of 68 After Prolonged Illness

Mrs. Tom Kelly, a lifelong resident of Garryowen school district east of Fort Calhoun, passed away Wednesday afternoon at the St. Catherine’s hospital in Omaha where she had been a patient since last November. Her illness dates back to last July, and during all that time she has suffered intensely from cancer which took its toll on Wednesday of this week.

Johannah Fitzgerald, daughter of John and Margaret Fitzgerald, was born in the neighborhood where she spent her entire life, sixty eight years ago and twenty seven years ago last March she was married to Tom Kelly, also of Garryowen. To them one son was born, who some years back was the victim of an automobile accident. Her death leaves the husband thus alone and the sympathy of a host of friends goes out to him in his lonely bereavement.

Mrs. Kelly was a woman of kindly disposition and much attached to her home and friends, and she will be missed from her circle of associations. She was a consistent member of the Catholic church, and the last sad rites will be held from the St. Philips Neri Catholic church in Florence at 9 a.m. Saturday, and interment will be made in the Holy Sepulchre in Omaha.

Besides the bereaved husband, she leaves one brother, John H. Fitzgerald, of Garryowen and two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Leehy and Jane Fitzgerald, both of Omaha, besides many other relatives in this county.
