SARAH SCHMUCKER DIES AT ELK CITY

Mrs. Sarah Schumaker, well known resident of Elk City, and mother of Postmaster Charles Schumaker of Washington, died Sunday at her home. Mrs. Schumaker broke her hip about seven years ago and has been an invalid since then.

As Sarah Ellen Wilt, Mrs. Schumaker was born in Liverpool, Pa. May 24, 1855. After her marriage to Mr. Schumaker the couple moved from Pennsylvania to a farm near Elk City in 1881, and in 1905 they moved from the farm to Elk City.

Mrs. Schumaker was a member of the Elk City Methodist church and a charter member of the Bluebird Royal Neighbor lodge, having had the honor of naming the Elk City lodge.

The body of Mrs. Schumaker was taken to Omaha where it lay in state in the Fitch and McEachron mortuary until 8 a.m. Tuesday, after which it was taken to Elk City where the funeral services were held from the Methodist church. The services were conducted by Rev. W. A. Bowbin of Elgin who also conducted Mr. Schumaker’s funeral in 1920.

Survivors are two sons, Charles Z. of Washington and George P. of Omaha; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Dodson of Fremont and Mrs. Alice Forney of Liverpool, Pa., one granddaughter, Mrs. Hans Moeller of Elk City and two great grandchildren.
